That means cooler air, hotter drinks, and…drier skin? Unfortunately, that crisp winter weather and extra exposure to manufactured heat can wreak havoc on our skin. Luckily, there are some things you can do to stay ahead of it. Here are 10 tips to keep your skin in top shape this season:
1. Book a facial
A deep cleanse and good exfoliation will remove the dead layers of skin that have built up, allowing skincare products you apply to penetrate deeper into the skin.
2. Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize
The needs of our skin change as the seasons change. During cooler times of the year, your skin needs more moisturizer. Oil-based moisturizers are great because they not only moisturize, they add a layer of protection to the skin that protects against the environmental elements.
3. Save your skin post-shower
Moisturize your skin right after you get out of the shower or bath while your skin is still wet. This will lock in the moisture and keep skin glowing.
4. Be picky about your soap
Avoid harsh soaps that will strip your skin of its protective oil layer
5. Drink lots of water
This will help keep your skin hydrated, improving the skin’s appearance and overall health.
6. Don’t forget the sunscreen
I cannot emphasize this enough, DON’T stop applying sunscreen just because the sun isn’t out. The sun’s rays can still damage your skin, which leads to premature aging and possible skin cancer.
7. Buy a humidifier…and use it!
Humidifiers put moisture back into the air and help keep your skin from becoming dry.
8. Masque it away
Invest in a professional pharmaceutical-grade hydrating masque, which will add much-needed moisture to dry and dehydrated skin.
9. Treat yourself
The holiday season can be very stressful, which is terribly bad for our health and skin. Take the time to do something for yourself. When you are healthy, you will be better able take care of others.
10. Create a custom skincare game plan
Team up with a licensed esthetician, Michelle Yvonne Beauty, to build an individual skincare plan for you. While beautiful skin doesn’t happen overnight, regular facials and proper home care will give you the skin you have always dreamed of having.
